Preparing for Momentum Before It Returns
As summer begins to move into its later stages, many professionals naturally start looking ahead again.
Not always consciously, but quietly.
Responsibilities that softened slightly over recent weeks begin to reappear mentally. September sits on the horizon. Diaries will fill again. Pace will increase. Expectations will sharpen.
And how that next phase feels is often shaped long before it officially begins.
One senior professional I worked with described realising towards the end of summer that if they did not make certain decisions before pace returned, they would most likely repeat the exact same patterns that had exhausted them earlier in the year. Once responsibilities accelerated again, they knew there would be far less space to think clearly about what actually needed to change.
That awareness shifted the focus completely.
Preparation stopped being about productivity.
And became more about intentional re-entry.
Because once pace increases again, space naturally reduces.
And many people quietly fall back into whatever patterns were left waiting for them.
Sometimes the most valuable preparation happens before momentum fully returns, while there is still enough space to think honestly about what should continue, what needs to change and what no longer feels sustainable.
As the next phase of the year begins to approach, it may be useful to consider:
- What would help the next phase of the year feel more intentional than reactive?
- Which patterns from earlier in the year do I not want to automatically return to?
- What currently feels sustainable, and what still needs to change?
- What would help me re-enter the next phase with greater clarity and steadiness?
Often the quality of the next season is shaped before it officially begins.
If this stage of the summer is beginning to create awareness around what the months ahead may require, it may be worth using this remaining space more deliberately before momentum fully returns.

Because preparation is rarely about controlling what comes next,
but about entering it more intentionally.
