Capable teams can compensate for broken systems for a remarkably long time. But continuous compensation is not a strategy.

Because capable people carry on delivering, the gap between capability and capacity goes unnoticed for months — sometimes years. Sustainable performance was never meant to depend on permanent over-functioning.

But how that next phase feels is shaped long before it officially begins. The most valuable preparation happens while there’s still space to think honestly about what should continue, what needs to change, and what’s no longer sustainable.

By early July, there’s enough distance from the opening months to see things more clearly. Patterns become easier to recognise. Reactions easier to understand.
