As summer approaches, perspective begins to widen. The first half of the year is nearly complete. By this point, patterns are no longer forming — they’re established. Growth is often experienced as progress; new clients, expanding teams, increasing opportunities. Yet internally, something subtle shifts. Communication becomes layered, decisions take longer, results feel less consistent. The challenge often isn’t effort. It’s that systems built for a smaller organisation now strain under scale.
The first quarter often carries optimism — new plans, fresh energy, clear direction. By May something shifts. Plans meet complexity. Decisions become less straightforward. Leadership feels less about ideas and more about judgement. If it feels heavier, that’s not a sign something is wrong. It’s a sign the role itself is evolving.
As the year gathers pace, something important disappears in high-performing environments: thinking space. Calendars fill, messages arrive faster than they can be answered, decisions accumulate.
